For the last year, our community team has been crafting stories of life after the zombie infestation in Trumbull Valley for you. You’ve seen the wins and the losses, the struggles and the triumphs of the people who continue to survive when there was little to no hope of survival.
Calling all storytellers! Do you have a short-short story that would fit into our Life After Zombies series? We would love to share your creation. Keep it under 1500 words, but don’t feel like you can’t go short — some of our favorites are around 500 words. You can tell a story, do a photo essay, transcribe a survivor interview…wherever your muse takes you!
Here are the guidelines:
The story should fit into the Life After Zombies setting. Jamie McCraren, the County Librarian, is collecting stories from the survivors and diary pages found in abandoned buildings. These stories chronicle life in Trumbull Valley after the zombies hit.
You can (and are welcome to) use images but please make sure that they aren’t copyrighted.
Like we said up top, keep it shorter than 1500 words please.
Once you submit your original story, you give Undead Labs first digital and anthology rights. That means we get to be the first to publish the story online (though you’re welcome to repost afterwards), and if we did an ebook compilation of these stories, you’d be included. We also have the right to alter, edit, and publish the story as necessary.
Oh, and we’re happy to link to an author page or website if we publish your story.
How to enter:
Submit your entry to Nicole at Undeadlabs dot com before 5p.m. PDT on September 30, 2016. You can submit using txt., .docx, or a google doc. If you are including images, please make sure they are in the .jpg format.
Judging:
The Undead Labs community team will go through the entries and choose our top five. Those will be posted on the forums for community voting.
The Prize:
The winner will have their story posted on our website as a Life After Zombies entry. We reserve the right to publish more than one story from the pool of entries.
The winner will also get their choice of an item from our prize closet.
Now get out there and write your short fiction masterpiece!
