Happy Friday, survivors! To give your weekend an extra injection of awesome, I bring you our second Q&A session. In this set, we’ll talk a little more about Class4, and field a few more design-related questions.
Let’s get started!
using our brains to save yours
It’s been a really exciting week for all of us here at the Lab! On Thursday, we spilled the beans about our partnership with Microsoft, announced our target console, and gave some early details about our plans to release not one but TWO games — code-named Class3 and Class4.
We’ve had a lot of fun watching the coverage about these announcements. Here are some of the highlights:
…in the past three years, we’ve crushed, shot, sliced, exploded and generally obliterated more virtual zombies than we could ever possibly hope to count throughout the fullness of time…That’s exactly where Class3 — a temporary codename, mind you, and a direct reference to Max Brooks’ seminal Zombie Survival Guide — sets itself apart. – Joystiq
Joystiq actually created four separate articles about the news, including an interview with Jeff and a gallery of Doug’s kick-ass concept art. One piece is exclusive to their site — can you spot it?
We want to create the definitive zombie survival experience,” Strain told us in an interview. “It hasn’t been done yet, and we think that there’s a tremendous game there to be made, and we want to be the ones to make it. – 1up
Keep an eye out for 1up’s exclusive posting of one of my personal favorite images. If an outbreak ever hits Seattle, this is where you’ll be able to find me.
And that wasn’t all folks had to say…
Back for more, are you? Well, you don’t need to twist my arm to get a story out of Duncan! Gather ‘round and listen to the mysterious tale of Tajiri Station!
I must warn you in advance, this story might pose more questions than answers. I can’t take the blame for that. You see, Tajiri Station isn’t a typical town. Sure, I’ve told you about Qurada Colony, which clings precariously to the side of a great stone bluff in the Agarid Barrens, and of Kijang Village, built up the trunks of the Great Trees of Kunisi Wood. But trust me, Tajiri Station is stranger still!
First of all, you won’t find Tajiri on many maps. Most folks wouldn’t even recognize the name. And if you told them that it was located at the bottom of the Shallow Sea, they’d probably call you crazy or accuse you of telling tall tales. But I’ve walked along its tunnels and I can tell you it’s most certainly real!
Has it really been three weeks since PAX ended? It seems like just yesterday Drew Hobson (the voice of Marcus) was cheerfully saying “niiiiiiiice” on request, and revealing his other role on State of Decay. J.L. Bourne was only a few hours ago signing autographs in our booth and telling stories during the Superfan prize dinner. I feel like we were just standing in a crowded room, telling people that as a matter of fact you’ll be able to play as Sasquatch in the Year One edition of State of Decay. And it sure feels like I was very recently sitting on a convention center floor scribbling notes, while over my head Jeff and Foge were designing a PVP tournament for Moonrise.
Dread Central recently sat down with me to talk a bit more about Class3, the challenges of making games, and horror influences. To read what I had to say, head over here and check out the interview!
