Say Hello to Ben Scott
Technical Director
What does a Technical Director do?
I manage the software engineers on the project and help define the standards by which we work. I also provide technical advice and guidance to folks from other departments throughout development.
Phew! Busy man!
What made you get into the game industry?
An addiction to games? Seriously, I wanted to move into building engaging and entertaining experiences for other people. Besides, writing code where I can define how the player can dismember zombies is so much more enjoyable than implementing map projection algorithms to help with spatial visualization of data.
Ha! I’d imagine so.
How did you end up at Undead Labs?
I thought the team at Undead was fantastic and wanted to be able to work with and learn from such high-caliber people. The idea that such a small group of people would have the audacity to try to build products much larger than they should even consider taking on was quite appealing.
Makes sense, a hard working man like yourself finding that kind of a challenge appealing.
What is your favorite part about working at UL?
The culture of the studio. In an industry that grew out of people’s garages and tends to be cavalier about how it treats people, Undead Labs has consistently treated people with respect. This allows us to work hard and play hard. Ultimately it’s the people here that drive the culture. Knowing you can rely on your teammates to deliver on their part lets you relax and work on your part and watch as the whole thing comes together.
From everyone at Undead Labs, thank you for your hard work Ben!
