Friday At The Lab

Howdy, survivors! Ever wonder what a typical day looks like at the Lab? We thought it would be a fun end-of-the-week surprise to show you first-hand. Our resident amateur video enthusiast, Jeff, cruised around with his iPhone today and cut the footage he shot into a short video of our Friday.

Check out what we’ve been up to today!

Have a great weekend!

Emily

That is awesome and pretty much the first look at the alpha stages of the game – I really like the town look – it sort of looks like, Alan Wake, which is super good! I want more behind the scenes looks soooo awesome!

      My fellow Americans,

This is your president, and we are now facing the greatest threat that has ever been presented against the human race. Zombies have risen and seek to feast upon the flesh of the living. Even now as I stand before you, these words are difficult to fathom, and yet I assure you that it is the truth. I tell you this now, not to cause a panic, but to prepare you for the harsh realities of the near future. All data that we have acquired tells us that this epidemic of unknown origins is beyond the control of any government’s armed forces capability for containment.
Once again, this message is not to cause a panic, but to spread awareness. Military forces of this country and many others have already been overrun, and in many cases have bolstered the numbers of the undead. With other detachments, we have lost all contact and while we fear the worst, we hope that they are simply hunkered down, out of contact, and fighting for their own survival. The cold hard truth of the matter at hand is, do not expect support, do not expect rescue, for we as a human race are under siege.
As of this time, our resources which we have previously relied on so heavily, such as electricity, clean water, and natural gas are beginning to fail, and our citizenry now has to relearn survival skills that have been dormant due to the previous conveniences which we took for granted. This will test our ability to pull together as one people, no longer defined by race, religion, color, or creed, but instead simply by the despair of our situation and our mutual need for survival.
As you face the possibility of combating your recently deceased friends, family, and community, know that all of humanity are now your brothers and sisters in the fight for survival as we face the most horrifying atrocities that nature has ever endured. While we try to rise above this horrible travesty, hold on to your humanity and do your best to prevent becoming a statistic of this horrible circumstance.
May the creator guide his creation and protect us from the trials ahead…

(This is just something I did after reading your info and Q&A Sessions. I love roleplaying the zombie apocalypse and hope you all enjoy it!! I can’t wait for the game, and you guys are awesome for doing this game. It will be a shining day for gamers everywhere, and if you need fan input and ideas let us know!!)

    >.> Seriously, I love zombies and I love programming, I wish I could work there. Looked awesome. The only time being Canadian has messed me up. And, not having C/C++ code snippets since my only C/C++ code, except for my micrprocessor code for moving a robots head in a course, are tied up in closed source programs. I program in other languages.

So? Just obfuscate out the business-specific stuff and send it in, it’s not like Jeff and company are out to steal your company’s IP. Unless you somehow stumbled upon another 0x5f3759df…

Unfortunately, we’re not able to even read suggestions or code mailed to us, so we wouldn’t be able to check it out.

It’s great that you’re programming, though, JW! Keep it up, and we wish you the best of success with your own projects. Hope to see your comments on future articles. Even if you’re not coding for us, we’d still love to hear your ideas! :)

I bite my tongue watching this D: Holy crap it’s in a very early build and it already looks sooooooo badass!!

LOVE IT and even better was saw something what I believe is the hoard. If you look at the screen with the image the red floor. It looks like a bunch of shadows and I’m assuming that’s a mass group of zombies. I’ve never been this excited for a game :D and not to mention the level design looks so frick’n awesome

    • Researcher: Josh_Rhombusbox

Ya, It’s sort of how I have been envisioning it from those small shots we see in this video. I like the back of the buildings are being well contructed and so many places to go.. very exciting.

you guys are such teases :)

It looks mildly cartoony, like a Left4Dead style, which I think worked/s great for a zombie game. Watching all the footage really has me pumped up. Can’t wait for the game to come out.

Was that gameplay!!!!! No it couldnt have been, but it was. Im gonna go out in the middle of the street and shout. Have a good weekend guys.

Remember that the footage you saw was very early over-the-shoulder dev shots, so the art style is hard to make out right now.

Glad you guys liked what you saw! Everyone’s super pumped about the positive comments you’re posting, so thanks a bunch! :)

    • Researcher: Deacon

Is it just me, or would it be safe to surmise that Dead Rising had a big influence on the melee combat?

I know it was just a single combat animation, but the melee seems to be right there with Capcom’s zombie outing and its less-than-realistic animations.

Regarding the animation itself, as awesome as it looks and sounds, would it really be a good idea for a survivor to reach for two zombies’ heads, for the purpose of banging them together?

So incredibly pumped to get my hands on Class3, but I’m unfortunately very cynical and critical, considering all the less-than-stellar options lately for zombie survival-horror.

Thanks a ton for making the vid (and allowing it to be posted now!); things like that REALLY boost the spirits of your followers when they’re able to see that the atmosphere is very obviously productive and positive. I hope you guys continue to have a great time making the game; we’ll all get alot more enjoyment from it that way!

Please stay away from the comical Dead Rising aspects of a game. This wouldn’t help with the survival, fear feeling i hope this game will have.

Brant has said that they are taking a more serious approach to zed.
Emily has said that what we saw in the video was very early deve shots.
Brant has also said that we should trust them to balance fun game play with realism.
The video looked to me like battle testing to find the balance between realism, and outrageous fun. I don’t think we have to worry about a Dead Rising-like game. Dead Rising is fun, but what I’ve read here suggests the idea of placing players in a real zedpocalypse world as much as possible, which was not what Dead Rising was trying to do.
I am new to forums, and forum etiquette. I am hope that I am not being overbearing, and answering things that only devs should be answering.

      @Emily

They’re over joyed with even the smallest bit of ANY level of gameplay…

If you showed them 8-bit figures they’d have the same reaction

You guys should stop teasing ;)

hey i watched it and its going to be a good game if you do it right make it like if it happend in real life and make it were you can go into every place and open doors and pick up about anything that a human could carry but i like what i saw so good job from me.
