And Now A Word From Our Team

Today is a momentous day at Undead Labs. Over the past few months we’ve been quietly refining our design, working out the core systems, and — most importantly — building the most ass-kicking zombie-slaying game development team ever assembled. Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing the entire team to you; including our inbound art director, who painted the tasty image attached to this post.

Today, we start with my long-time friend and colleague James Phinney.

Phinney and I met in 1996 on my first day at Blizzard Entertainment as a newb game programmer. He made a huge impression on me with his answer to my question about how long he’d been at Blizzard: “Since before we were Blizzard.” I didn’t know who the hell he was, but I knew he must have been a veteran, and he’d been part of the Warcraft II development team, so he must have been a complete badass to boot. Over the next few years I had the pleasure of working closely with him on Diablo, for which he was a producer, and then on StarCraft, for which he was both the lead producer and lead designer.

It’s no surprise that Phinney was at the top of my list when we started looking for a lead designer for Guild Wars. I was fortunate to again have the opportunity to work side-by-side with him throughout the development of Guild Wars in his role as lead designer, and later as the design director for ArenaNet.

So it can’t be much of a surprise that Phinney would again be at the top of my list of designers to lead the design of our console zombie-apocalypse MMO. Not only is he a veteran MMO developer and a staunch advocate for innovation in the MMO industry; he’s also a huge zombie fan and a passionate console gamer. A true trifecta of design awesomeness.

Welcome aboard (again), Phinney!

Jeff

PS: Don’t forget to read Phinney’s message to his fellow survivors here.

ok so I didnt mean completely make it like l4d but simply take a couple of ideas from it that`s all.If any thing I don`t want it like l4d because thier both really different games for many reasons and I like that. That`s also why im looking forward to this game because it`s different.

anyway still seems like you guys are stil working on the game or doing something else because haven`t heard much from you guys yet but hopefully that will change soon…KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

I don`t know what you guy`s are thinking for guns in this game obviously guns that people use in video games like assault weapons submachine guns pistols melee weapons you know stuff like that. but since it`s a survival game maybe have allot of or at least a good amount of civilian guns because it`s a zombie survival game.So the out break of course is going to be near cities and towns with local gun shops and hunting stores so hopefully you guys implement those kinds of weapons in this game.

For instance the beloved m16 is awesome for killing zombies.so you can have the civilian issued m16 other wised known as the (AR-15) rifle.HK M3 Super 90 civilian shot gun.Yes that is a shot gun.MAGPUL Masada / Bushmaster ACR basically the civilian ACR
KRISS Vector CRB/SO civilian vector.Just some examples of mine. But like always keep up the good work.

Every body`s been talkin bout everything else but… this important subject.hopefully we can get some more ideas from other people out there.
